Whilst work at Jurby continues, Manx Transport Trust were given permission to move two buses to Ramsey depot. Initially DCT 64 was moved whilst another vehicle may join it soon. Ramsey residents 67 and 13 were also briefly inspected to ascertain the condition of two more additions to the growing collection.

Hangar 230 Transformation. 'Coal shed to Museum'

Saturday 17 October 2009:
With a vast amount of work to complete before the Easter 2010 opening, Manx Transport Trust members have been keen to start the transformation of Hangar 230. The drains at the front of the building and a sixth of the floor have been cleaned with a pressure washer. After filling and sealing, the floor has been given a coat of grey floor paint.

Manx Transport Trust members have carried out their most ambitious recovery to date. Isle of Man Road Services 1951 Leyland Olympic no 84 and Isle of Man Transport 1971 Leyland PDR2/1 Atlantean 45 (ex Merseyside 1235) have been successfully returned to the Island. The extended day trip saw the Atlantean, then the Olympic readied for the journey home. 84 met up with 1235 at Lancaster services on the M6. The two buses then travelled to Heysham dock to return on the 02.15 sailing aboard the Isle of Man Steam Packets Ben-My-Chree.

Thank you to all the friends of Manx Transport Trust that were able to come to Hangar 230 on Sunday 20th September. It really does make a huge difference and brings the museum another step closer to opening next Easter.

Volvo Ailsa HSR50X Spares or Repair!

Ex Tayside Volvo Ailsa no 50 has been on the Isle of Man for some time, in the ownership of a Film company. Having been out of use for several months the 28 year old Volvo was driven to Jurby by Manx Transport Trust members.

DCT Regent III No 64 was requested to take part in Isle of Man Railways 'Friends of Thomas' weekend. Driven to Douglas on Thursday evening by Manx Transport Trust Members, 64 was suitably decorated on Friday to take the part of 'Reggie the Regent' over the weekend.

With poor weather forecast for the Island, the turn out for the 'Festival of Jurby' was nothing short of astounding. 300 vintage bikes signed up for the lap of the race circuit, which had to be curtailed after a prolonged downpour. The pictures show the vast amount of people and bikes that made it to Jurby before the weather put a stop to a great event.

Olympians day trip to Jurby.

Vintage Bus Tour to Jurby

As part of the Islands transport week a vintage bus tour was organised by TLP Tours using Leyland PD2 No 2. Due to the hgh demand for tickets Olympian 83 was drafted in to help out.

Leyland Era Draws to a Close

The last of a long line of buses from the famous British manufacturer Leyland Motors will soon leave use on regular service journeys with the Island_s _Bus Vannin_ fleet. Leyland has been a familiar name in the Island_s bus fleets since 1927, but now only a handful of more recent models remain in use. Commemorative services with the last survivors of the type, numbers 83 and 99 will operate as part of the Manx Transport Heritage Festival which is taking place between 30th July and 5th August. Both buses will then be placed on loan to the new Jurby Transport Museum where they will join the display of vintage buses and other vehicles.

Move tto Jurby Part 8. AEC Regent III No 64

When Manx Tranposrt Trust were asked last week to move DCT Regent III no 64 from Port Erin to Jurby, members quickly arranged a date to move the Mk III to its new residence.

Sunday 20th September work commences

Thank you to all the friends of Manx Transport Trust that were able to come to Hangar 230 on Sunday 20th September. It really does make a huge difference and brings the museum another step closer to opening next Easter.

Volvo Ailsa HSR50X Spares or Repair!

Ex Tayside Volvo Ailsa no 50 has been on the Isle of Man for some time, in the ownership of a Film company. Having been out of use for several months the 28 year old Volvo was driven to Jurby by Manx Transport Trust members.

Friends of Thomas weekend

DCT Regent III No 64 was requested to take part in Isle of Man Railways 'Friends of Thomas' weekend. Driven to Douglas on Thursday evening by Manx Transport Trust Members, 64 was suitably decorated on Friday to take the part of 'Reggie the Regent' over the weekend.

A New Arrival. Sentinel S4 Steam Wagon

Latest addition to the museum collection is 1934 Sentinel S4 steam wagon, resplendent in Douglas Gas Light Co livery, which arrived on Sunday 16 August.

All the pictures were taken by Fred Tyrer in the late 1920s/early 1930s. The original glass negatives (plus many more views around the island) are in Fred Tyrer _ Richard Davis collection.

Olympians day trip to Jurby.

Sunday the 9th August 2009. Withdrawn Olympians 83 and 87 were driven to Jurby Transport Museum for a final photo tour. Last Olympian 83 is now to become an exhibit at the Museum whilst 87 is is soon to leave the Island.

Vintage Bus Tour to Jurby

As part of the Islands transport week a vintage bus tour was organised by TLP Tours using Leyland PD2 No 2. Due to the hgh demand for tickets Olympian 83 was drafted in to help out.

Olympian 99 arrives at Jurby Transport Museum.

Olympian 99 was driven to Jurby Transport Museum by Mark O'Neill. Mark drove the Olympian over the Mountain Road to Ramsey and then onward to Jurby. Pictures taken using an HTC Touch HD.

PEEL Carnival 2009

Peel was once again blessed with great weather for the annual carnival. With a spectacular turn out of locals and tourists Manx Transport Trust were able to attend with Road Services Leopard 97 and Ribble Leopard 665. We can't wait for Peel Carnival 2010!

PD2 Wedding Day 'Special'

Bus Vannin's Road Services PD2 was in use on Saturday 25th July offering wedding guests a unique mode of transport. Expertly driven by Les Cannan and ably assisted by conductor Richard Davis.
